Mark your calendars
Fr. Daniel Repp’s last Sunday as our rector is June 12. A combined Rite I service at 9:00am will be celebrated followed by a reception in the Common Room. This reception gives us an opportunity to reflect on the many gifts Fr. Dan has given us over the past 6½ years as our rector. As we “go and grow our separate ways”, we must pray “that much of the visioning that has occurred over the last many years, including what flowered during the “Building a Stronger St. John’s” capital campaign continues unabated and in great mutuality.
The Outreach Committee is sponsoring a Give-Back Day at Hacienda at Easy Shopping Place on May 22, 2016. 20% of any funds spent at the restaurant that day will be donated to St. John’s. Meals eaten in the restaurant, carry-outs and gift cards purchased that day all count toward the total, as long as the attached token is presented. Please share the tokens with your friends and coworkers so they can support our outreach activities. Be sure to follow the guidelines printed on the token. If you would like to support this fund raiser but will not be able to attend that day you may sign up to purchase gift cards. Gift cards make good gifts for High School Grads, the paperboy, etc. Please contact Sue Moore by May 19 to request gift cards. Mucho Gracias for your support!
This year, St. John’s will be a Full Partner in participating with the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, the largest one-day food drive in the nation, sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers. Please mark your calendars for Saturday, May 14 for the day of the drive. Due to increased volume, St. John’s Food Pantry will most likely need additional help in the food drive. For more information, see Charlie Goethals.
Ecumenical Ascension Day Service
In recent decades, Ascension Day marks an occasion of ecumenical services. Members of St. John’s so interested this year are encouraged to attend a joint regional service at Holy Trinity Episcopal in South Bend on May 5 in the evening, time TBA. Leaders of our Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana and our synodical counterpart in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America will be present.
CWS Hygiene Kit
The Outreach Committee decided to change our project for Church World Services this year. Instead of the Emergency Buckets, we have chosen to gather Hygiene Kits. The components are listed below. We would appreciate it if you could create an entire kit, not just “parts and pieces”. Please pick up these essential items as you are doing your shopping. We would like to complete this project by June 1. Thank you for supporting this caring ministry for those in need.
CWS Hygiene Kit Supplies needed:
· One hand towel measuring approximately 15”x 28” to 16”x 32” (no fingertip, bath, dish towel or micro-fiber)
· One washcloth
· One wide-tooth comb removed from the package
· One finger nail or toe nail clipper removed from the package
· One bath size bar of soap in the wrapper
· One toothbrush in the package
· Ten standard size Band-aids
All items need to fit inside a one-gallon plastic zipper closure bag. Remove the excess air from the bag and seal before boxing. Do not add any extra items or toothpaste. A tube of extended expiration date toothpaste will be added to each Hygiene Kit just prior to its journey.
